Towering second album from rising Cheshire alt-rockers. 9/10

“All I want is everything,” sing Blitz Kids in the group vocals of atmospheric melodic rock opener 'All I Want Is Everything', and, with an album as strong as 'The Good Youth', it might not seem too far out of reach. 2013 was a big year for rising British rock bands and 2014 is already continuing that trend, with Blitz Kids leading from the front. A huge step forward from 2011's 'Vagrants & Vagabonds', 'The Good Youth' was recorded in LA with producer John Feldmann (All Time Low, Panic At The Disco, Black Veil Brides) and it's nothing less than a rebirth. Energetic and upbeat yet mature, the likes of the rousing 'Run For Cover', with hints of Taking Back Sunday, and the soaring chorus, dark verses and strings of 'On My Own' are the sign of a band getting to grips with their sound and expanding it until it's simply massive. New single 'Sometimes' is a punchy and uplifting tune (which also features guest drums from Josh Freese!), while mesmerising album centre 'Keep Swinging', atmospheric ballad 'Long Road' and pop-driven 'Pinnacle' prove they're destined to follow in the footsteps of You Me At Six. The My Chemical Romance-esque theatrics of 'Sold My Soul' (featuring organ from Marcel Rodriguez Lopez from The Mars Volta) shows a stunning level of confidence from this young band. An exuberant and infectious, not to mention very polished, melodic rock album that means 2014 will be big for Blitz Kids. No wonder they want everything...
