FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND
CHAPTER AND VERSE
(Distiller)
Seventh album from Welsh post-hardcore stalwarts.
8/10

14 years into their career, FFAF sound reinvigorated. Driving first single 'You've Got a Bad Case of the Religions', 'Pencil Pusher' and '1%' see Matthew Davies-Kreye and crew bursting with upbeat energy and confidence. Sounding more melodic hardcore than the post-hardcore they're known for, this is a powerful, anthemic album, with the acoustic 'Brother' and the atmospheric, excellently titled 'The Jade Tree Years Were My Best' as welcome curveballs. Recorded in two weeks with Lewis Johns (Gnarwolves, Goodtime Boys), 'Chapter and Verse' succeeds in sounding modern and urgent. A thrilling return.
