VARIOUS ARTISTS WRECKTROSPECTIVE (Fat Wreck) 3 CDs of the legendary punk label Fat Wreck Chords’ greatest hits, unreleased tracks and rarities! 5/5 Fat Mike (of punk rock favourites and BC friends NOFX) must be surprised that his little label that he started almost 20 years ago has released some of the finest punk records of recent times. Featuring 88 tracks across 3 CDs, this long-overdue box set is great value and is a surprising who’s who of ‘90s and noughties punk rock perfection. The first CD is a ‘Best Of’ disc and features 33 bands, including modern punk classics from the likes of the Descendents, NOFX, Avail, Against Me!, Face To Face, Less Than Jake, Dillinger Four and Rise Against. While the first CD is great for any punk rock Christmas party you’re planning on throwing, it’s on the other two discs where the real gold can be found. Digging into the Fat Wreck Chords back catalogue, the label has unearthed rarities 28 rarities and previously unreleased demos for your listening enjoyment. The final disc is a real treat, with the limited release Fat Club 7” series in its entirety, available on CD for the first time and featuring the likes of The Vandals, Strike Anywhere, Strung Out and MXPX. If all that isn’t enough, there’s also the booklet full of stories from band members, providing an oral history of the label, and a poster of all of Fat’s releases!
